When you think about cruising around the stunning Norwegian Fjords or soaking up the sun in the Caribbean, laundry probably isn’t top of your list… But trust us, when you’re halfway through your trip and running low on clean socks, you’ll be chuffed to know P&O Iona & Arvia have you covered!

So, does P&O Iona & Arvia have a launderette? Yes – and not just one, but a proper setup on most cabin decks, and they’re actually really good! In this post, we’ll tell you exactly what to expect, how it works, and why using the launderette can make your cruise experience just that little bit smoother.

Self-Service Launderettes – What to Expect

One of the best things about sailing with P&O Cruises is that they offer free-to-use self-service launderettes – yep, free! Just like Princess Cruises, these laundry rooms are a proper bonus, especially if you’re packing light or doing a longer voyage.

On Iona, you’ll find these launderettes on most cabin decks, and they’re well-equipped too – we counted about 6 washer & 6 dryers in each! They’re clean, tidy, and simple to use.

Facilities Include:

  • Washing machines

  • Tumble dryers

  • Sinks

  • Ironing boards and irons (you can’t take them back to your cabin – safety first!)

And if you’re sailing on Iona or Arvia, you’ll get a modern touch – the machines are controlled by a touchscreen panel. Green means available, red means in use. Simple.

Top Tips for Using the Launderette

Here’s a few little tips we picked up (sometimes the hard way!) to help you make the most of P&O Iona’s laundry facilities:

  • ⏰ Avoid peak times – Early morning (8am when they open) or after 7pm are usually quieter. Get any ironing for Celebration Night done asap.

  • 🌊 Sea days = laundry chaos – If you can, do your washing on a port day instead

  • 📦 Bring your own washing tablets – You can buy them onboard, but it’s easier and cheaper to pack your favourites from home

  • 📍 Avoid cabins next to a launderette – Can get noisy with people coming and going

  • ⏲️ Set a timer for your washing – Laundry cycles are around 45 minutes, and clothes left in the machine too long may be removed (not ideal!)

  • 👕 Iron ahead of formal nights – Everyone has the same idea, so beat the rush!

  • 🧺 Bring a laundry bag – Makes sorting and carrying your stuff a doddle

  • 🚿 Use the drying line in the shower or take towel clips – Handy for smalls and swimwear

FAQs About the Launderette

Do I have to pay to use the launderette on Iona & Arvia?

Nope! All the washing machines, dryers, and irons in the launderettes are completely free to use.

Where are the launderettes on Iona & Arvia?

They’re located on most stateroom decks, so you shouldn’t have to walk far from your cabin to find one.

What time do the launderettes open and close?

They’re open from 8.00am to 10.00pm daily. They close at night to reduce noise near nearby cabins.

Can I iron my clothes in my cabin?

No – for fire safety, irons aren’t allowed in cabins. But each launderette has ironing boards and irons you can use.

What should I bring for doing laundry onboard?

We recommend bringing:

• Your own washing tablets or pods

• A small laundry bag or basket

• Crease-release spray (handy for packed clothes)

Is it worth using the launderette on a cruise?

Absolutely – especially if you’re sailing more than a week, want to pack light, or just like fresh clothes. It saves packing too much and you won’t come home to a mountain of washing.

So there you have it – yes, P&O Iona & Arvia both have launderettes, and they’re free, easy to use, and genuinely handy. Whether you’re prepping for a formal night or freshening up after a long hike in the fjords, having a place to wash and press your clothes makes cruising even more relaxing.

Happy cruising and even happier laundering!
